One of the hardest things to do in life is to look at your life objectively. It requires a certain detachment, a stepping back from the immediate and the personal, to see the broader patterns and trajectories that define our existence. Because we are so focused on our daily events and accomplishing things, we rarely get the opportunity to look at ourselves in a way that we might look at others. Our attention is often consumed by the tasks at hand, the deadlines to meet, and the responsibilities to fulfill, leaving little room for introspection. Rarely do we have a chance to look at our own lives and our actions and our choices and the results of those choices in an objective, let's say bystander perspective. It's like trying to read the label from inside the jar; the closeness obscures clarity.
We're quite used to having opinions and even judgments about other people's choices and how they choose them to run their lives, but rarely do we turn that perspective onto ourselves; so we are looking at our own lives objectively. We might criticize a friend's career path or analyze a family member's relationship choices, but seldom do we apply the same level of scrutiny to our own decisions. Why? Because it can be painful and perhaps even embarrassing!
To look at our own life objectively is a very rare occurrence indeed. It demands a level of honesty and vulnerability that can be uncomfortable. However, when we can look at ourselves objectively and see the patterns of our behavior and the choices we've made, then we might be able to get a better understanding of our journey in this lifetime. It could even spur greater growth and awareness. Regardless, looking at ourselves objectively allows us to identify recurring themes, understand our motivations, and recognize the consequences of our actions.
We all go through cycles during our lifetime and these growth cycles get us to the next level of being. These cycles can manifest as career changes, relationship shifts, or personal transformations. If we're lucky, we advance our soul through lessons and adjusting our psychology, our character, our emotions, our temperament, and our outlook in life. Each cycle presents opportunities for learning and evolution. We do this a lot of times subconsciously. Often, we navigate these transitions without fully realizing the extent of our growth until we reflect on them sometimes many years later.
On rare occasions we choose to look at ourselves objectively while going through the actions and choices and then monitoring our results that materialize in the physical world, we realize it requires a heightened sense of self-awareness and a willingness to confront our own biases. Whether we achieve our desired outcomes or face unexpected setbacks, there is always valuable insight to be gained if we choose to make the effort to understand it.
As we gain more insight and more practice exercising this perspective switcheroo and this routine of understanding how our actions and choices have an impact on the results that we experience, then we've reached a level where our conscious is at a very high level. This level of awareness allows us to make more informed decisions and navigate life with greater intention. It's something that the animal Kingdom probably does not experience—it's something only the human experience can have the privilege of experiencing. Animals primarily operate on instinct and immediate needs, lacking the capacity for deep self-reflection. That makes us exist at a higher plane and it's something to be grateful for. It is a testament to our unique ability to learn, adapt, and evolve, both individually and collectively.
